Lingerie Shots Cause Stir for Miss USA Pageant 2010
Ever since it first began back in the 1950s, contestants in the annual Miss USA pageant have had a portrait photograph taken of them before the competition, which until this year amounted to tasteful shots of wholesome girls wearing ball gowns.
However in a bid to increase its audience and get more people interested in the competition this year, pageant organisers decided that, rather than the traditional ball gown portraits, this year the contestants would pose in their most seductive lingerie.
This move has certainly gained attention from the country’s press, although not in the positive way that organisers of the pageant had hoped. Critics and members of the general public have expressed outrage, branding these portraits as “scandalous”!
The organisers of the pageant have defended their decision to have the contestants wearing lingerie in their portrait photos, arguing that they are “modern”, “edgy” and simply a way of bringing the competition into the 21st century.
But this argument has not stopped many people feeling angry about these sexy photos, which they argue are particularly ridiculous given that previous Miss America Katie Rees lost her crown after being photographed semi-nude.
