Laura Ann Smith Named As Star in a Bra 2010
Stunning Laura Ann Smith from Bonnybridge in Scotland has been voted this year’s Star in a Bra.
Following intense competition, the public voted for Laura Ann who wears a double H cup. As the lucky winner, she will now be retained by Curvy Kate to model the brand’s DD – J cup lingerie for the next year, as the face of the brand.
Organised by online retailer Brastop in conjunction with Curvy Kate, this is the third year in which the Star in a Bra competition has run. Previous winners have ranged from F to HH cup sizes.
Laura Ann will also benefit from a year’s free supply of lingerie.
Celebrating the beauty of the fuller figure, Brastop originally conceived the competition to counter the “unrealistic” portrayal of the female figure by many lingerie brands, with a tendency to use models that are considerably below average size.
Open to “real” women with cup sizes of DD+ and greater, the Star in a Bra competition encourages a rather more realistic and wholesome view of the female figure. As Laura Ann herself puts it : “people have got to realise the curvy figure is normal”.
Brastop and Curvy Kate certainly seem to have hit the mark with this competition, clearly resonating with Brastop’s customer base who are, on average, a 34 G cup size.
Competition has been fierce, with Laura Ann being something of a last minute entrant, finally deciding to register at 11pm on the night on which entries for the 2010 competition closed.
The Star in a Bra competition is likely to become an annual fixture in the lingerie calendar. Since Brastop focuses on swimwear and lingerie for the fuller figure, identifying a model to whom consumers can relate makes good business sense.
With brands that include Fantasie, Wonderbra, Ultimo, Freya and, of course, Curvy Kate – a brand that launched in the middle of 2009 and offers lingerie in cup sizes ranging from DD to J cups – Brastop thus provides enormous choice for women with a real figure.
