Knickers in a Twist over Edible Undies
It is no secret that regardless as to how necessary they may be, for many businesses adhering to Health and Safety regulations can often be something of a drag. Having said that, it is not often that owners of lingerie stores have to worry about applying for food permits!
But all that is set to change for one American lingerie store, as a recent change in legislation means that the owner of San Antonio’s “Shades of Love Lingerie” may now have no choice but to apply for a food permit if she wants to sell edible undies.
Unsurprisingly the store’s owner Rosemary Benitez is outraged at this new law, having branded it “ridiculous”. She told local news reporters that “everything sold is novelty” and that this edible underwear, also available in the UK from stockists such as Ann Summers, is “not something you sit down and actually eat”.
Perhaps pointing out the obvious to the picky local authorities Benitez clarified that this novelty lingerie is not designed to “fill you up”, but is instead just for “tasting”.
In spite of her protestations, the health authorities are not moving, having informed Ms Benitez that any business in San Antonio that sells edible goods requires a food permit, which apparently includes anywhere selling edible undies!
