Jean Paul Gaultier Returns to Lingerie

Jean Paul Gaultier Jean Paul Gaultier Returns to LingerieAlthough not necessarily known for being a lingerie designer per se, it was in fact John Paul Gaultier who was responsible for designing what has proved to be arguably the most iconic item of lingerie of the 20th century.

We are of course referring to the cone shaped bra famously and rather brazenly worn by Madonna in the late 80s and early 90s. She posed in photo shoots and sang on stage wearing cone shaped corset style bras ironically reminiscent of the 1950s, prompting the first wave of what is now known as ‘underwear as outerwear’.

But since Gaultier designed Madonna’s bras a couple of decades ago, he has largely refrained from designing lingerie, instead concentrating on clothing. That said, Gaultier has always been visibly influenced by lingerie, as many of his catwalk creations look lingerie-esque.

Well it seems that Gaultier has now finally decided to go the whole hog and design a line of lingerie and to do so he has teamed up with the fabulous designer lingerie brand La Perla.

Together with La Perla, Gaultier is creating 27 high-end lingerie items, which are set to be released for sale in November of this year.
