adult jobs 300x168 Government reintroduces ban previously fought by Ann SummersEmployment minister Chris Grayling has just put in force a ban which will prevent job centres from advertising jobs that involve stripping or lap dancing, justifying his actions by stating that “it’s absolutely wrong the Government advertises jobs that could support the exploitation of people.”

He is quoted by Sky News as saying that “We shouldn’t put vulnerable people in an environment where they’re exposed to these types of jobs and could feel under pressure to work in the sex industry.” But many feel that these new measures are unnecessary.

Famous strip club owner Peter Stringfellow has publically described the new ban as “heavy handed,” claiming that this sort of government interference with his line of business is unnecessary.

This is, however, not the first time that such job advertisements have been taken off the books in job centres. Before 2003 it was Jobcentre Plus policy to refuse any adverts from the adult entertainment industry, although this policy was changed when Ann Summers argued that this ban was unlawful.

At the moment this ban is only a temporary measure, although the Government plans to push through permanent legislation in the near future.
